About Work
A Vessel for Stillness
Forged by hand through traditional metalworking techniques, Geng Yun carries the quiet presence of an object shaped slowly and deliberately. Its surface reveals an interplay of stippled hammer marks and flowing linear textures — each strike preserved as part of the vessel’s memory, reflecting the rhythm of the maker’s hand.
Crafted in silver with accents of copper and brass, the teapot balances warmth, weight, and refinement. The materials are not polished into perfection, but allowed to retain their living character — a surface that responds to light, touch, and time.
The Meaning of “Geng Yun”
The name Geng Yun (耕云, “Cloud Tiller”) draws from the Song dynasty expression gēng yún zhǒng yuè (耕云种月), an image deeply rooted in Chinese poetic philosophy.
It evokes the life of a recluse — fishing beneath moonlight, watching clouds drift across mountain valleys, observing the waxing and waning of the moon. A state of ease untouched by urgency.
Inspired by poet Guan Shifu’s verse:
“Unplowed clouds fill the valley,
unstirred moonlight pools within the pond.”
The work reflects a quieter way of inhabiting time — one guided not by haste, but by presence.
Tea as Ritual
In an age defined by acceleration and noise, Geng Yun invites slowness.
The act of boiling water, pouring tea, and holding the vessel becomes more than routine — it becomes a moment of pause. A return to attention, to texture, to silence.
This is not simply a teapot, but an object intended to accompany contemplation and daily ritual.
